Sony WH-CH700N vs Sennheiser HD 4.50 Review

Sennheiser and Sony are both titans of the electronics and audio industries. With their constant innovation and attention to high-quality details, each company is well-known among audiophiles for producing some of the best headphones in the game.

Wireless, noise-cancelling headphones are a great choice for those who want the mobility of Bluetooth headphones with the true sound quality of plug-in headphones. Or perhaps you just don’t like the feeling of earbuds in your ear canals. Whatever the case, over-ear wireless headphones are an excellent choice for commuters and travelers who enjoy their music but don’t want to bother with tangling cords. They are also great for making calls, as the Bluetooth technology allows for connectivity wherever you are.

Sony is not only a maker of sound equipment, but a household name in electronics. They are a manufacturer of ubiquitous products found nearly everywhere around the world.

Their WH-CH700N model wireless noise-canceling headphones boast excellent battery life on a single charge. They come with a “quick charge” feature in which you can listen to music for up to 60 minutes after only charging the battery for 10 minutes.

The active noise cancellation feature works at a moderate level and is not as good as more expensive noise-canceling headphones, however, it will work adequately when listening to music. The Bluetooth works well and automatically pairs with known devices.

The WH-CH700N model comes with a carrying case that many users complain doesn’t actually fit the headphones. When out of the case, though, they are known to fit quite comfortably on most heads.

Sound quality is excellent, probably because they are made by Sony.

Sennheiser is a German-based brand that has been creating sound equipment since 1945. They produce everything from headphones for the casual user to professional audio equipment.

Their HD 4.5 BT wireless headphones have excellent battery life on a single charge. Without a charge they are still able to work when plugged in. The BT quality is strong, with the ability to make clear phone calls.

The Active Noise Cancellation feature means you can turn it on and off depending on whether or not you need to pay attention to the sounds around you. As far as blocking out all ambient sound, though, the HD 4.5 BT are moderate quality.

Many complaints about the HD 4.5 BT come from the fact that they do not fit well on people with big heads and the headband quality leaves much to be desired.

That said, they are good all-purpose BT wireless headphones for the price.

  • Great sound quality
  • Long battery life
  • Little to no sound bleed

Recommendation

If you are looking for true noise cancellation, these are not the headphones for you. If you want very good to excellent sound quality with Bluetooth technology, though, either one of these models will suit you well. With similar design and price points, the decision is really entirely up to you. If you know and trust the Sony brand, stick with the WH-CH700N model; if you are an audiophile with discerning taste, go with the HD 4.5 model.

The Sony model seems slightly more comfortable for a wider range of head sizes, while the Sennheiser model may have a longer-lasting battery life when fully charged. For travelers who want something that will last an entire flight, either set should work just fine.

Even though the Sony model is reviewed as more comfortable, they are also a little bit heavier and bulkier in style. The Sennheiser are more streamlined in design, but with a less comfortable headband.
